Christ is Risen! Christos Anesti!

+ + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + +
Now is everything filled-full with light -- the heavens, the earth, and the underworld. All is presently bathed in light: Christ is risen from the dead. The heavens make merry, the earth rejoiceth, the underworld exulteth.
The Angels in Heaven hymn Thy Resurrection, O Christ-Saviour. Do Thou make us, on earth, also worthy to glorify Thee with a pure heart.

Turn Away From Insult

...For, imitating God, it is more glorious to turn away in silence from insult, than to triumph over it by answering in kind.
                                                                  St. Gregory the Great
                                                                  “The Passion of Christ”

What Have You Endured for Your Master's Sake?

Tell me, O sinners who are mortal by nature: What have you endured for My sake, for your Master Who suffered for you?
                                                                        St. Ephraim the Syrian
                                                                        “A Spiritual Psalter” (19th Kathisma)

Christ's Passion

Christ’s Passion is a life-quickening death to those who have experienced all its phases, for by experiencing what He experienced we are glorified as He is (cf. Rom. 8:17).
                                                                             St. Gregory of Sinai

Love For One Another

In Christ Jesus there is neither male nor female, nor Greek, nor Jew, but all, according to the holy apostle, are one (Gal. 3:28). In the same way, in Him there is neither ruler nor subject, but by His grace we are all one in faith in Him, and belong to one body, His Church, whose head He is. By the grace of the all-holy Spirit we have all drunk of the one Spirit, and have all received one baptism. We all have one hope and one God, who is above all, and through all, and in us all (Eph. 4:6). So let us love another. Let us bear with one another, seeing that we are members one of another. As the Lord Himself said, the sign that we are His disciples is love. He left us love, and the last prayer He gave us when He ascended to His Father was about love for one another (John 13:33-35).
                                                                         St. Gregory Palamas

Finding Rest in God

We do not need riches or learning in order to know the Lord: we must simply be obedient and sober, have a humble spirit and love our fellow men. The Lord will love a soul that does this, and of His own accord make Himself manifest to her and instruct her to love and humility, and give her all things necessary for her to find rest in God.

Directions on Spiritual Training

The Saviour began the work of our salvation with fasting. In the same way all those who follow in the footsteps of the Saviour build on this foundation the beginning of their endeavor, since fasting is a weapon established by God. Who will escape blame if he neglects this? If the Lawgiver Himself fasts, how can any of those who have to obey the law be exempt from fasting? This is why the human race knew no victory before fasting, and the devil was never defeated by our nature as it is: but this weapon has indeed deprived the devil of strength from the outset. Our Lord was the Leader and the first example of this victory, in order to place the first crown of victory on the head of our nature. As soon as the devil sees someone possessed of this weapon, fear straightway falls on this adversary and tormentor of ours, who remembers and thinks of his defeat by the Saviour in the wilderness; his strength is at once destroyed and the sight of the weapon, given us by our Supreme Leader, burns him up. A man armed with the weapon of fasting is always afire with zeal. He who remains therein, keeps his mind steadfast and ready to meet and repel all violent passions.

Turn to Him

...And I live here clinging to my God Who saves all who turn to Him from faintheartedness and storms.
                                                               St. Mary of Egypt
